In 8th grade FACS, we made bags and they have turned out amazing. Making that bags was so fun and pretty easy. Now we are working on making pj pants or shorts. FACS class has helped me learn how to be a better sewer. After the pj’s we are going to be making dirty clothes bags. They hold your clothes so that you don’t have to. All of us get along so well which makes facts ever more fun. In the past, we made finger pin cushions and for Halloween, we made pumpkin pincushions. One thing I like about FACS is that we are never not working on something. Thanks, Mrs.

If you want a yearbook, you have to get one by the end of December. There might be some extra but for a guaranteed one you have to order by December. They are 30 dollars!

Adelaide Zeeman who is on the yearbook committee said, “Everyone’s pictures will be in the yearbook. There’s a bunch of pages on sports. There will be a page on people’s favorite candy bars. Here at Salem Jr High School, the Honors Society is sponsoring a pop tab drive. The pop tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City. The Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to stay if they have a family member in the hospital. The Ronald McDonald House recycles the pop tabs to pay overhead costs of running the house. Start collecting pop tabs (found on soda cans, soup cans, fruit cans, etc.) Students turn them into your advisory teacher. There will be a gallon jug in your advisory classroom.

November's Students of the Month have been chosen and have received their awards, but they haven't yet received their recognition. We want to congratulate all of them and let everyone know how great they are. These kids are impressing their teachers with hard work and great attitudes. Congratulate them if you see them.

Today in 8th-grade science, students are learning about physical states of matter and how things change from solids to liquids and then to gases. What better way to learn about this than to make ice cream? Students are separated into partners and given a plastic ball which they fill with salty ice water. There is a metal tube in the middle of each ball where the ice cream is actually made. They add the ingredients for their ice cream and roll it back and forth to mix it up and make sure that all of the ice cream is getting cold and not just freezing to the sides.

Last week, in honor of Veteran's Day, many students in our school wrote letters to some of our active service men and women in the military to thank them for their service and show appreciation for what they do for our country. Students had a great experience with this activity. They wrote letters and created cards that were sent off to Mrs. Betteridge's son and his squadron in the Middle East. Mrs. Betteridge was excited and thankful to the students for the letters that they wrote.

Last week at SAJHS was hope week. On Monday, it was dress up like a tourist, on Tuesday was sports day, Wednesday was hat day, Thursday was a whiteout, and Friday was pajama day! We had hope week so we could get off our phones. The theme of hope week was unplug and reconnect. A lot of the world today is experienced through our phones. We should start to unplug from our phones and connect with real people more often.

Hi guys! This past term, our choir did a great job and the time has come for our new songs. We will be having a couple different performances. On November 17th, the Chamber Singers will be attending the ACDA UT performance at the Libby Gardner Concert Hall in SLC.  They will leave right before school ends.

Next week our school's counselors and the Hope Squad are sponsoring Hope Week with the theme Unplug and Reconnect. The theme is focused on the concern that too much time spent on electronics and especially social media can be detrimental to student's physical and mental health. This whole week our counselors will be reminding students to put down their phones and reconnect with their friends and their surroundings on a personal level. Above is the schedule of planned activities for the week.

Congratulations to the 7th grade football team for winning the super bowl! The 7th graders are the only grade in the school that won their super bowl. They played a tough game against Springville, a team that they had lost against earlier in the season. Everybody came together as a team and several students made some great plays that helped our team take the victory. That is incredible. We are so proud of the 7th graders!
