Super Proud of SaJHS Choirs: Last week was the District Intermediate Choir Festival. Our Men's Chorus and Women's Chorus both earned Superior ratings! Today was the District Advanced Choir Festival, and Singers and Bella Voce both earned Superior ratings (this is the highest rating) as well as special commendations from our adjudicator for their preparation and skilled performances.

Congratulations to Drama: Mrs. Ashworths students just finished the run of their musical "Seasons of Love". It was written, directed, performed and technically supported by Salem Jr. High Students. We are super proud of the hard work and energy that went into this production.

Closed Campus: Just a reminder that Salem Jr High is a closed campus. Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds from the time they arrive in the morning until the time they leave at the end of the day. This includes lunch time, meaning no drink runs, no being picked up by high school friends or siblings and no walking to Stokes for lunch. The only exception to this is if a student is checked out at the office by a parent or someone formally designated by the parent in Icampus.

Tardy Policy: Please check I-Campus for your students grades and attendance. Tardiness creates a distraction to the  classroom atmosphere and learning. We will now be adding lunch detentions in addition to early morning detention as part of our tardy reduction repertoire. Students who continue to have excessive tardiness will be required to serve lunch detentions to make up tardy's during term 4.

End of Level Testing: End of level testing for 8th graders begins April 12 and will continue for the following 4 weeks. Students will be tested in Writing, Math Language Arts and Science. 9th grade students will take the ACT Aspire test on April 20th and 21st. This assesses understanding of core standards in Reading, Writing, English, Math and Science. It is a good tool to help students and parents monitor progress towards a successful ACT test that they will take in high school.

Masks: Please remember to send your student each day with a clean mask. We’ve been able to give out thousands of masks this year but our supply is starting to run low. HB294 lifts statewide mask mandate April 10 but schools, groups 50 and larger must continue to wear them. As of right now the health mandate requiring masks in schools is set to expire on July 1st. We are all hopeful that is the case and we can begin next school year maskless and breathing free.

Spring Break: We hope you all have fabulous spring break and can take some time to relax, spend time with family, and come back rejuvenated to finish the school year strong.
