Some might assume that with SAGE testing happening at school, students have already slipped into summer mode. That is definitely not the case here at Salem Junior High. Our 9th-grade history and English classes are working on a cross-curricular project that has them working hard and learning a lot.

Our students have been working on a research project that requires them to learn about a global issue of their choice and come up with a solution to fix the problem or at least mitigate the negative effects it is having on the part of the world that they have chosen to focus on. The final product will be a written speech that they will then deliver. This project has combined research practices used in English and history as well as writing, critical thinking, and creativity. It has been a complex project and the teachers are proud what their students are producing.

It has been a long project, but students are beginning to see the end. In the picture they are sharing the first draft of their speech, looking for peer feedback on ways to make their speech clear and compelling.
