On Friday, May 3rd, Salem had a great pre-district meet against Springville and  Mapleton. Many people both had personal records and team/district records. Everyone worked so hard to beat their best times and measurements to qualify for the district track meet being held on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10. Congratulations to Paige Simmons by winning the 100m, 200m, 400m, and high jump. Adrene Harding did an amazing job running distance for Salem in the 800m and 1600m.

Track team thanks South Valley Gym

Submitted by jolynn.ford on

We are happy to thank South Valley Gym for their generous donation to our Track & Field program. They donated matching shorts, polos, athletic pants and jackets for six coaches. All were embroidered with our Salem S and Track & Field. We are thankful for their dedication to our community and the programs of Salem Jr. High School. Their donations promoted unity among our coaching staff and the track and field team. As we travel to represent our school and community we look great and are very distinctive.

Gender Wars

Submitted by jolynn.ford on

Last week, Salem Junior High School had its very first Gender Wars! Every day at lunch the Student Council would choose boys and girls to compete against each other. They would have to complete various tasks such as rolling toilet paper out with their nose, or even seeing who could pull all of the tissues out of a tissue box first. There were always two teams consisting of girls and boys. Whoever finished their task first was the winner! The best part? At the end of the week the gender with the most wins of all the competitions would get a dollar off to go to the dance.

SaJHS Band Visits Snow College

Submitted by jolynn.ford on

On April 8, Salem Jr. High Concert Band had the opportunity to enjoy a band festival at Snow College in Ephraim. Several famous directors and composers such as Jack Stamp and David Blackington presided at this festival. After driving down by bus, they got to watch different high school bands perform, and later performing themselves. To improve on their skills, they participated in a personal clinic with Jack Stamp, famous band director and composer at Indiana University in Pennsylvania, who helped us become better musicians.
