Ammon Wallace is recognized nationally for his science project
Congratulations to Ammon Wallace who was chosen from more than 6,000 students to be in Broadcom Masters' top 300 students for his science fair submission. Some of you will remember last year when we posted about Ammon's project that explored the possibility of extending the shelf-life of milk using blue light. We were impressed with Ammon's creative solution and it turns out that so were the judges.

Who can solve the first Math Muncher for August
School has begun and so the math department has issued its first challenge to our students. The first three Math Muncher problems have been posted. For those who are new to our school, every month the math department posts three math problems on their bulletin board. Each problem is worth tickets to enter a drawing to win a gift card courtesy the math department.
Salem Jr High Golf Team Tryouts
Mr. Roberts will be holding an informational meeting for all students interested in joining our school's golf team. Anybody interested in learning more about the great game of golf is encouraged to attend. The meeting will be August 25th at 3:00 in the library.
Ms. Howard and her classes start the year right.
In 9th grade English students made "clickbait headlines" to describe an event from their summer. The point is to get people interested in the story by creating an exaggerated headline. Tomorrow students will interview each other and get the real story.
Cross Country Information Meeting Thursday 8/24
Come to Mrs. Ashton's room in 108 for an informational meeting about Cross Country Thursday, the 24th. We have a great tradition of large teams for Cross Country and we hope that we can get a lot of kids this year as well. It's a great opportunity to get exercise and make new friends. Cross Country starts next week.

Change in 7th Grade Day
With the feedback we have received about the eclipse starting when our Seventh Grade Day is ending, we have decided to move up Seventh Grade Day to 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:45 a.m. Buses in the morning will now only be 30 minutes later than the normal school day and will leave the school by 11:00 a.m. We hope this helps alleviate the conflict between the two events.
