Our very own Nikki Lamoreaux, a mathematics teacher at Salem Junior High, was honored this past week at the Utah Teacher of Mathematics Conference for the state of Utah. Ms. Lamoreaux received the George Shell Award.
This award is given to an exemplary secondary mathematics teacher and recipients of this award encourage student achievement by the following ways:
- Providing activities, which enhance understanding of math concepts,
- Generating enthusiasm for math among students, and
- Providing opportunities to apply and extend mathematical skills.
The winner of this award also serves as a role model for other teachers by doing the following:
- Demonstrating interest in acquiring and maintaining skills in mathematics, including instructional skills,
- Implementing effective teaching techniques, and
- Demonstrating a willingness to share skills and ideas with other teachers.
