New Teacher - Kevin Bateman

Kevin Bateman

We are excited to have Kevin Bateman as our new band director at Salem Jr. High this year!. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Brigham Young University. While at BYU, he was the president and trumpet soloist for the Cougar Marching Band, played lead trumpet in the Pep Band and Jazz Ensemble, assistant principal trumpet in both the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony as well as being a member of
BYU’s Synthesis. Mr. Bateman attended American Fork High School, where he was the principal trumpet of their Wind Symphony and
soloist for their marching band for two years. During this time, he was also the principal trumpet in the Utah All-State Band and received both
the Louis Armstrong Award as well as the Semper Fidelis Award.

Mr. Bateman student taught at Skyridge High School in Lehi, Utah where he taught Jazz Band and Symphonic Band in addition to helping lead the Pep Band. When he wasn’t working at the high school, Mr. Bateman could be found teaching Percussion at Lehi Jr. High or Viewpoint
Middle School.

Mr. Bateman is also the Assistant Director of Visual for the Salem Hills High School Marching Band and a previous staff member of the Lone Peak High School Marching Band. It is not uncommon to find Mr. Bateman teaching Marching Band alongside his wife, Erin, who helps the
Salem Hills Marching Band as their Woodwind Advisor.

Mr. Bateman believes that band can play an important role in preparing students for success in the future by developing skills such as foresight, grit, discipline, teamwork, communication, and self-esteem.
