Today we held our 2022 Salem Junior High Battle of the Books Competition.  Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students.  The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers. In September, students formed teams of 4 or 5 students.  Each team member chose 3 to 4 books to read from a list of 20. Today, the students came together for a game-show style tournament where they worked as a team to answer questions about the books on the list.

This year, the team "Book Caterpillars" - Rachel Peterson, Sydnie Utter, Alayna Maestas, Mary Linford, and Evelyn Loor claimed the title of Champions in a very close battle. The second place was team "Spuds" - Alexa Shutt, Kiley Maxwell, Emma Asay, Josie Ellsworth, and Katelyn Patrick. The students spent a lot of time reading, practicing and working together to accomplish this goal, and it showed. We also honored Alayna Maestas, Rachel Peterson, Serra Patterson, Sydnie Utter, and Nate Call for reading all 20 of our Battle of the Book books!
