Today we held our 2022 Salem Junior High Battle of the Books Competition.  Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students.  The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers. In September, students formed teams of 4 or 5 students.  Each team member chose 3 to 4 books to read from a list of 20. Today, the students came together for a game-show style tournament where they worked as a team to answer questions about the books on the list.

Ryan Williams teaches English and Creative Writing at Salem and is also our Yearbook advisor. He has the habit of starting class by saying "All right...."  During junior high, Mr. Williams spent a lot of time daydreaming and thinking up stories.  He still has the dream of becoming a writer.

Genevieve Palestino teaches English at Salem Jr High. When she was in junior high, she and her siblings liked to make movies and music videos.  One of her favorites was an adaptation of the "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" soundtrack.  Mrs. Palestino likes seeing students gain confidence to solve their own problems.

Lost and Found: Lost and found items are kept in two locations at school. One is the library and the other is in the hallway between the gyms. Currently they are overflowing with clothing items: coats, jackets, sweatshirts, hats and oh so many water bottles. We will be donating anything left after this Friday to Tabitha's Way.  Please have your students come and take a look, particularly if your wondering where their jacket is.
