In an effort to encourage literacy with all of our students, the English department decided to try a school-wide read aloud to start off the year. Every English teacher has been reading the book Restart, by Gordon Korman, to their classes. Students have been participating in online discussions with other classes, answering questions about the development of the story and the various themes that they have seen developing.

Restart is about a school bully who receives a head injury after falling off of his roof and wakes up several days later with amnesia. He doesn't remember anything about his life before the fall and as he slowly learns who he is, he has to decide what kind of person he wants to be. It's a fun read with a great message for students. We will be reading the book for about another week, but the English department would like to encourage parents to read it as well, so they can have a conversation about it with their students.
