On Monday, April 29th, Salem Jr. High’s advanced and beginning orchestras had the opportunity to go and play at an orchestra festival at UVU.  They performed in front of judges who evaluated them on how well they played.  They were also judged on their professionalism, musical balance, tune, and more. When the orchestra finished their songs, the judges went on stage and either helped them on parts that needed improvement, or praised them for a job well done. I asked Mr. Wells, our orchestra teacher, what he thought of the festival. He said, “I thought it was much more educational than years past at this festival.  One of the judges helped us tremendously.  He seemed to work very well with junior high students. ”I asked an orchestra student, Darby, what she thought of the festival. She said, “I liked the festival. It’s fun to go every year and it gives the orchestra more experience with performing and getting feedback. I like hearing the differences between other schools.” All in all, I think that this was a great experience for Salem Jr. High’s orchestras.  I hope that we have this same opportunity next year as well!
