Yesterday, the Hope Squad kicked off their duties with an annual retreat.

The Hope Squad is a group of students that provide support, encouragement, referral and resources to students who may be struggling. It requires attendance to a monthly meeting and initial training for those students involved. Students in the hope squad have been nominated by their peers as someone they would turn to in a difficult situation.

Members of the Hope Sqaud will be trained in recognizing the warning signs of suicide and how to refer the student for help. The students are not“counselors” or “suicide intervention experts” but rather, they are supportive helpers trained in how to help students get help.
