Gender Wars

Last week, Salem Junior High School had its very first Gender Wars! Every day at lunch the Student Council would choose boys and girls to compete against each other. They would have to complete various tasks such as rolling toilet paper out with their nose, or even seeing who could pull all of the tissues out of a tissue box first. There were always two teams consisting of girls and boys. Whoever finished their task first was the winner! The best part? At the end of the week the gender with the most wins of all the competitions would get a dollar off to go to the dance. I think this was a very fun way to get kids involved in their schools and let them know what was going on. They could meet new people by participating in the games. In one of the games, where you had to drink the water out of a bottle the fastest, kids from our school would cheer them on and help them feel good about themselves. Many activities helped to build team spirit within our school. It joined people together to just have fun at lunch. It mixed things up and let kids have a good laugh. You now may be wondering who won? Well, the boys did! Even though they won, everyone who participated and watched still had a great time, and we can’t wait until the next Gender Wars rolls around!
