Salem Hills High school’s drill region competition was Thursday January 28, 2016. It was held at Salem Hills, with a mix of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Thanks to all those who came out and supported them. The drill team placed high enough to qualify to compete in the state competition which was in February.

“I like drill because it helps me work better with people and it’s fun,” said Madelyne Otte, a 9th grader at SaJHS. Shelby Hill, also a 9th grader, said,“Drill is fun and I have a lot of friends and enjoy their company.” With all the fun, comes a lot of work. The drill team works with a fitness coach who helps them do conditioning. Otte said, “He kicks our butts!” Hill said that learning all of the dances was challenging. “Sometimes you have to learn to change formations at the last minute in case someone is gone,” Hill said.

This year, the Salem Hills High drill team allowed eighth graders to try out and compete with the team. SaJHS has a few girls on the team who go to practices at the high school.
